Chain shoots sixth gold

Guwahati, Feb 14: Shooter Chain Singh on Sunday won his sixth gold medal at the South Asian Games (SAG) being held at the Kahilpara Shooting Range.

Chain domited the men's 50 metre Rifle 3 position's event to win the gold with a degree of ease. He first topped qualifying with a score of 1170 and then led the fils from shot one to finish with a score of 453.3.

Indian team-mate and Olympic bronze medallist Gagan rang bagged the silver with a score of 450.3 in the fils, a fair distance away from Chain. Sri Lanka's S.M.M. Samarkoon pocketed the bronze with a score of 430.9 in the fil.

The team gold in the event also went to India, where Chain, Gagan and Surendra Sinh Rathod's combined score of 3490 was far ahead of Sri Lanka's silver winning effort of 3431. Bangladesh bagged the bronze after posting a score of 3398.

India's tally from shooting at SAG now stand at 21 gold, nine silver and eight bronze medals for a total of 38 medals out of the 65 distributed in the sport so far.

Pakistan are second in terms of medals won with 11 but the lone gold won by Bangladesh for a total of six medals puts them in the second position.

Chain had earlier won both the individual and team golds in the men's 50m Rifle Prone and 10m Air Rifle events.
