City's main commercial hub facing numerous problems

BY OUR STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, February 19: Fancy Bazar, the busiest commercial hub in the city, has been facing numerous problems for long. Among several problems, poorly maintained high voltage electric wires dangling from posts pose danger not only to the people who live and do business there but also the shoppers who visit the market often.

The TRP Road, popularly known as Galla Patty, in Fancy Bazar doesn’t have street lights for a long time despite assurances given by the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC).

During night, big trucks enter the Galla Patty for the purpose of loading and unloading of goods. While loading and unloading, electric wires sometimes get damaged, resulting in power cuts in the area. Frequent power cuts in the area also impact the business of the locality to a great extent.

Traders of Fancy Bazar demanded that measures be taken to repair all damaged electric wires in the area for the safety of people.

Similarly, conditions of land telephone lines in the area are very pathetic. Some of the damaged telephone posts in the Fancy Bazar area are yet to be restored by the authorities concerned.

The encroached footpaths and congested roads have led to two-wheeler drivers having a harrowing time on Galla Patti Road to enter Fancy Bazar from MG Road or Machkhowa side.

These roads are completely blocked off by mini trucks, tempos and handcarts, with traders loading and unloading their goods.

The poor draige system is another problem that adds to the woes of Fancy Bazar.
