gaon, February 3: Dr Dhrubajyoti Bora on Tuesday formally took over as the new president of the Axom Xahitya Xabha, the apex literary body of the State, in a grand ceremony at the Pandit Atmaram Sarma Samany Kshetra in Mouchanda Pothar here.  On the fourth day of the ongoing 73rd Kaliabor biennial session of the AXX, Dr Bora was felicitated with gayon and bayon as he rode a chariot in a huge colorful procession. Large numbers of enthusiastic onlookers lined the procession route on both sides.  In his speech, the new AXX president drew upon the rich and ancient heritage of the Assamese language, and said that a proper assessment is needed of its long past to guarantee its bright future. Dr Bora also spoke glowingly about the vital role played by the Xabha in the development of the Assamese language, as well as the building of the larger Assamese society.  “We must all assemble under one umbrella to empower the largest literary organisation of the state. In particular, the young generation studying in our colleges and universities must become a part of the Axom Xahitya Xabha”, he appealed.  Urging those who parted ways with the AXX to return, Dr Bora said that it will provide a platform open to all. He also said that a full–fledged modern language can be a vehicle to take secularism forward, and the Assamese language will surely fulfil this role.  Mentioning the plight of the tea tribe community of the State who still continue to suffer from poor quality of elementary education, Dr Bora called for the setting up of Assamese medium schools in tea tribe areas to impart education in mission mode.  Earlier, eminent litterateurs Yeshe Dorje Thongshi, Mahim Bora, Dr Lakhmindan Bora, Dr gen Saikia and several distinguished persons and lumiries graced the first open session of the Xabha.
