Dispur In Dark Over Fate of HPC (Hindustan Paper Corporation) Mills!

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: Dispur has been kept in the dark from the directive issued by the NCLT (National Company Law Tribunals) on November 25, 2019 for the liquidation of the two HPC (Hindustan Paper Corporation) mills in Assam.

Responding to the issue raised by AGP’s Prafulla Kumar Mahanta and AIUDF’s Imdadul Haque Choudhury in the State Assembly on Friday, State Industries & Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary said, “So far, neither the Centre nor the NCLT has communicated us officially on the issue of liquidation of the two HPC mills in Assam – one at Jagiroad and the other at Panchgram.”

Significantly, Patowary has let the House know that a private party, BRS Group, had evinced interests to buy the two HPC mills. “The Tribunals even asked the BRS Group to submit its revised plan by November 25, 2019. However, neither the BRS Group nor the Centre submitted any revised plan to the NLCT,” Patowary added.

Imdadul Haque Choudhury said, “The Chief Minister, the State Industries Minister and the Government of India have, time and again, assured the people of Assam that they would revive the two HPC mills in Assam. However, their assurances vanished into thin air. What’ll be the future of all those working in these two mills now?”
