Dispur's writ stops at treasuries!

Treasury officers must forward bills to banks within ceiling dates, exasperated

Fince department tells DCs, SDOs

BY OUR STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Nov 24: Dispur seems to have no hold over the treasury, with a section of its officers functioning like a law unto themselves. In the latest instance of this utter disregard to government orders, treasury officers continue to violate ceiling date requirements despite several reminders from the Fince department.

A section of treasury officers habitually send bills to the bank after expiry of the ceiling date. This irresponsible practice has been causing acute problems in the functioning of concerned departments. Taking note of this, the Fince department had earlier asked all concerned treasury officers to strictly abide by the ceiling date. However, the directive has had no effect.

The Fince department has lately observed that despite getting clear instructions, some treasury officers have been violating the ceiling date. This has now forced the department to issue a fresh order.

In a WT message to the Deputy Commissioners and SDOs (Civil) of all districts, the Fince department on November 19 last has asked them to ‘direct the treasury officers to ensure forwarding of the bills to banks for payment within the last date mentioned in the ceiling’.

The message also said that ‘in case of violation of the order, suitable action will be initiated against the erring treasury officers’.
