All’s not well with pharmacies in Assam. Most of the pharmacies doing business in the State do not issue cash memos to buyers of medicines. Issuing cash memo for every sale above Rs 100 is compulsory under the Assam Value Added Tax Act, 2003. On the buyers’ demand when a pharmacy is not issuing cash memo, then there’s something basically wrong. Maybe, the pharmacy concerned has purchased the medicines illegally and selling them illegally without issuing cash memos. This is a loss to the government and the Income Tax department. The authority concerned needs to take up the issue seriously, delves deep into the matter and gets it corrected.
