Foreigners Tribunal - Declared Foreigners In Voters’ List of 2019

MORIGAON: Inclusion of declared foreigners’ names in the voters’ list of 2019 has created a sensation in Morigaon district.

The second Foreigners Tribunal court of Morigaon had declared Jainal Abedin, his wife Anuwara Begum, their son Habizur Rahman, two daughters Minara Begum and Muskura Begum – who had been living at Karatipum-Kapoujari under Morigaon PS, as foreigners. The case (no.179/2009) had been running in the tribunal since September 10, 2012.

After the tribunal declaring Jainal Abedin and his family as foreigners, he moved the High Court. The accused again submitted a writ petition to the High Court for the second time for considering the case. But the High Court declared Jainal Abedin and his family as foreigners on April 18, 2017 again under the second writ petition no.139/2013 submitted by him.

However, surprisingly enough, Abedin and his family were included in the voters’ list-2019 published by the State Election Commission. Jainal Abedin and his wife Anuwara Begum were included in the voters’ list of no. 736 and 737 of no.112 Kapaujari area under Jagiroad constituency. On the other hand, another person, Rafikul Islam of the same area was also declared as foreigner. Though he had submitted a writ petition no.3029/14 in the High Court, the court declared him as foreigner. Surprisingly, Rafikul Islam’s name was also included in the published voters’ list this year.
