ITANAGAR: Shortage of subject teachers is a common problem in many schools in Arunachal Pradesh. Dismayed over the issue, Upper Subansiri DC Danish Ashraf had requested his wife Ruhi, a B Tech in Telecommunication Engineering, to teach physics to over 90 students of Daporijo Government HS School for them to secure good results.

Her initiative yielded results as pass percentage of the students rose to 80 per cent from previous year’s 21 per cent, according to available information. In fact, the school has no physics teacher for over last five years.

Ruhi said that people criticize the education system but never try to become a part of it. “When I taught students, I realized that they’re very talented but lack guidance and opportunities though they want to achieve something in life,” she added.

It is worth mentioning here that West Kameng DC Dr Sonal Swaroop, who obtained MBBS degree from Delhi’s Maulana Azad Medical College, has already set an example by attending patients whenever she gets a chance, including district hospital at Bomdila.
