Implement Assam Accord in letter and spirit: AASU

GUWAHATI, Aug 14: The All Assam Students Union (AASU) on Sunday lit earthen lamps all over the State to pay respect to Assam Agitation martyrs and slammed both the Central and State governments for not implementing many clauses of the Assam Accord.  AASU president Dipanka Kumar th and general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi stated that 31 years will be completed tomorrow since the signing of the historic Assam Accord.  The AASU leaders said not only illegal Bangladeshis have made the State their home, but nowadays fundamentalist and jehadi activities have increased manifold, threatening the sovereignty of the country and identity of the indigenous people.  The students body again stated that the problem of illegal foreigners in Assam can only be solved if the Assam Accord is implemented in letter and spirit.  At Latashil playground in Guwahati, AASU members lit 855 earthen lamps to pay their homage to the 855 martyrs who laid down their lives during the Assam Agitation. Several top AASU leaders were present in this programme.
