Information About How to Get Occupancy Certificates

The occupancy certificate is a must once the con-struction of a building is complete. To get this certificate, a house owner has to move the planning department of the civic body. If the building is in Guwahati, one has to move the GMC (Guwahati Municipal Corporation) Commissioner with a petition. After the application, an engineer of the civic body inspects the construction works of the building, and if everything is ok the occupancy certificate is issued within 21 days. No application fee is charged.

The issuance of occupancy certificates largely depends on faithful adherence to the blueprint with which the permission for the construction of the building was obtained. In case of any deviation/violation of specifications made in the blueprint fines will be charged. Some of the specifications for getting occupancy certificates of a building in Guwahati are availability of parking spaces, a facility for segregation of wastes, a water-harvesting facility, plantation of trees in the plot, etc.
