New 350 Plus CCTV Cameras At Janata Bhawan and Assam Assembly Secretariat

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: Over 350 CCTV cameras will be installed at strategic and vital locations inside the Janata Bhawan and Assam Assembly Secretariat premises to step up security as well as to avert untoward incidents.

The decision in this regard was recently taken by the Home & Political department and the General Administration Department (GAD) after most of the CCTV cameras, installed at the State Secretariat (now Janata Bhawan) way back in 2007, were found non-functional. The existing cameras were installed when the Assam Government hoisted the 33rd National Games in Guwahati in 2007.

The Home and Political department and GAD recently reviewed and assessed the existing status of CCTV cameras at Janata Bhawan. Finding majority of cameras non-functional, both the departments decided to install new CCTV cameras at the Janata Bhawan as well as the Assembly Secretariat.

The AMTRON will be the nodal agency for the project. It has already floated tenders to award the contract of installing 350 plus CCTV cameras to a reputed organization. The project which includes the creation of a hi-tech monitoring room will be executed at an estimated cost of Rs 2.5 crore. The electrical division of the PWD has prepared the Detailed Project Report (DPR).

GAD Commissioner & Secretary Dr M. Angamuthu told The Sentinel that installation of CCTV cameras at Janata Bhawan and Assembly Secretariat is a thrust area of his department. He said the project is expected to start from November.
