No leader is indispensible, says APCC President

Guwahati, Aug 23: Describing Himanta Biswa Sarma's move to join the BJP as a "persol decision", Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi also claimed it was for "persol benefit."

"It is a persol decision for persol benefit," Gogoi reacted, without elaborating much.

Trying to put on a brave face, APCC president Anjan Dutta said neither the AICC nor he has received any resigtion letter from Sarma.

"We (Dutta and Sarma) were to go to Silchar for a party programme tomorrow. Till I get his resigtion, I won't make any comment. But if anyone betrays the party, he is actually betraying himself...and such people are not successful in politics. No leader is indispensible and no member is bigger than the party. The strength of the Congress lies in its grassroot workers," Dutta said.

The APCC president, however, claimed that 42 MLAs had called him up today to reassure him that they won't quit the party. "It (Himanta's quitting) will not impact the Congress. The Congress has its doors open...anyone can come and go," Dutta added.
