GUWAHATI: Dispur is gearing up to keep peace intact in the post-NRC situation in the State. And the social media continues to be the focal point of the entire administration.

Additional Chief Secretary (Home and Political) Kumar Sanjay Krishna’s two-day upper Assam visit had a hectic schedule when he chaired a number of meetings with the deputy commissioners, superintendents of police and different organizations. Chaired by him, the meetings were attended, among others, by the Special DGP (Border) Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta, ADGP (law and order) Mukesh Agarwal and other top-level police officers.

Apart from meetings with the Jorhat district administration, meetings were also held with as many as 19 students’ organizations. Their cooperation in maintaining peace in post-NRC situation was sought. However, during the discussions the social media hogged the limelight, albeit for its notoriety.

Talking to The Sentinel, Kumar Sanjay Krishna said: “We’ve asked the district administrations to remain alert. We’ve asked them to keep watch on the social media. Youth of the age bracket 18-25 upload provocative posts in the social media. Such posts on NRC already uploaded in the social media are also being monitored. In the meetings in upper Assam, various students’ organizations assured us of cooperation in keeping peace intact in the post-NRC situation. They’ve also extended suggestions.”

Kumar Sanjay Krishna further said: “We’ve briefed the district administrations on the new foreigners tribunals to be set up in the State. We’ve also discussed with the district administrations how to tackle people whose names will be missing in the final NRC. We’ll continue such meetings in all districts till July 31.”

Meanwhile, Kumar Sanjay Krishna, who is also the in charge of Revenue & Disaster Management, visited some flood relief camps in Jorhat during the tour, and took stock of the situation there. He said that along with relief materials, he made it sure if adequate medicines were available or not in the camps.
