Probe on, don’t politicize issue, appeals CM

Kokrajhar killings

BY OUR STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Aug 8: The issue of suspected involvement of ‘third force’ in last Friday’s mayhem in Kokrajhar is now doing the rounds, despite the State government’s claim that the attack was orchestrated by the NDFB-S.

On Monday, Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal informed the Assembly that an enquiry is being conducted into the Kokrajhar incident and the whole picture will soon become clear after the probe is over, adding that evidences found at the incident site, however, point the needle of suspicion towards NDFB-S. Sonowal was answering a question on the issue raised by AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam at Zero Hour in the State Assembly.

Terming the issue “very sensitive”, the Chief Minister appealed to all ruling and opposition MLAs not to politicize the issue and to work as a team to deal with the situation.

Islam said Friday’s attack in Kokrajhar was carried out in a “different way” and also mentioned that a section is trying to give it a commul colour by bringing in the jehadi angle.

In his reply, Sonowal said, “The State government is very actively looking into the issue, and as I said earlier, we have adopted a zero tolerance policy towards terrorism.”
