Pushpa Bhuyan no more

GUWAHATI, Oct 7: Renowned Bharattyam exponent Pushpa Bhuyan passed away in New Delhi on Wednesday. She was an Indian classical dancer specialising in the Indian classical dance forms of Bharatatyam and Xattriya. A recipient of the Northeast Television Lifetime Achievement Award, Pushpa Bhuyan was honoured with Padma Shri in 2002.  Born in Jorhat, Pushpa Bhuyan was one of the first few Assamese to venture into the prestigious field of classical dances as a serious professiol. In fact, she was the very first Assamese to learn Bharat tyam in Kalakshetra, Cheni. She had been wheelchair-bound for the last many years.
