GUWAHATI: Chairperson of Assam Tea Planters’ Association (ATPA) Dr Nazrana Ahmed has stressed revealing by packeteers in their packets the percentage of tea used for blending from the tea-growing regions.

Speaking at an interactive meet between the ATPA, North Eastern Tea Association (NETA) and Bharatiya Cha Parishad (BCP) and Federation of All India Tea Traders Association (FAITTA) held at Tocklai Tea Research Institute in Jorhat on Friday evening, Dr Ahmed said if a packeteer has used for example 70 per cent of Assam tea, 25 per cent Dooars tea and 5 per cent Nilgiris tea in their packet then he should reveal the same.

Many tea packets are sold as Assam tea whereas only a small percentage of Assam tea is used in the packaged product, Dr Ahmed said.

While expressing concern at the present crisis being faced by the tea industry due to stagnant prices and over production, the interactive meet also emphasized on producing quality tea.
