Guwahati, Jan 31: Arriving in the State, two days after being declared the BJP's chief ministerial candidate for the upcoming assembly elections, State BJP president Sarbanda Sonowal today mounted attacks on the Congress and AIUDF, saying that activities of the two parties threaten the existence of the Assamese community.

"The people are fed up of Congress misrule. We are determined to oust the party from power," Sonowal, who was given a rousing welcome by party workers, said while addressing them at the State unit headquarters.

He said the BJP aims to make Assam one of the model states in the country.

"Our emphasis will be on agriculture, education, youth development and good governce," he said, spelling out his party's road-map if voted to power.

Likening the upcoming polls with the Saraighat battle, Sonowal said the youth of the State will have to don the role of Lachit Barphukan and Bagh Hazarika to defeat the "ideology-less" Congress and "commul" AIUDF.
