SEBA to fight social evils via new curriculum way

Sexual abuse, witch-hunting and misuse of internet will be new chapters in a new book as rapid reader

GUWAHATI, June 10: The Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) will incorporate sexual abuse, witch-hunting and misuse of internet as separate chapters in the school curriculum to sensitize youths to fight against such social evils.

A SEBA official told The Sentinel that the board will introduce a new book in modern Indian language course where chapters on problems like sexual abuse, witch-hunting and misuse of internet will also be incorporated. He said the book will be used as rapid reader by students.

“We are incorporating sexual abuse, witch-hunting and misuse of internet in the curriculum since these have become burning issues. While many including children have become victims of child abuse, witch-hunting and misuse of internet have resulted in human causalities,” the official said, adding that the latest incident of two talented youths lynched in Karbi Anglong was the result of misuse of internet.

The official said if students can be sensitized against such social evils at their tender age, it will be easier to eradicate the evils in future.

“We will soon include a book in modern Indian language course about the great personalities of Assam from different communities. SEBA has assigned some competent people to write on those topics,” the official said.

On the other hand, SEBA has launched an integrated online system to address various issues related to the HSLC and Assam High Madrassa examinations.

The system will help students fill up examination application forms online and make it easier to get certificates. It includes online application for correction of registration card, admit card, marksheet, pass and migration certificates, and duplicate documents along with application for rechecking of answer scripts and photocopies of answer scripts for HSLC and High Madrassa examination. The system also includes online application for appearing in the compartmental exam.
