Sexual harassment charge against Labour Commissioner

GUWAHATI, February 16: In a shocking incident, two teeged girls today alleged of being sexually and physically harassed, and that too at the Guwahati residence of the State Labour Commissioner. Following the incident, the Labour Commissioner Chohan Doley, has been summoned by the Dispur police for questioning. The girls were allegedly kept at Doley’s residence located at Barbari area of Dispur police station. They maged to escape from the house and were rescued by police at Satgaon area on the outskirts of the city. An official of ‘Childline’ said they received information of the two rescued girls from Satgaon police and accordingly, took them under their protection. Based on statements by the two girls, Childline authorities and Dispur police later conducted a raid at the house of the Labour Commissioner, in search of a third teeged girl who was also allegedly kept in the house as a maid. “We could not find the third girl as she must have been whisked away after they got wind about the raid. The other two girls are with us now and necessary tests will be conducted to ascertain whether they had been abused,” Childline sources said.

One of the rescued girls is 13 years old, while the other is aged 16 years.

In the evening, the child protection officer of Childline lodged an FIR at Dispur police station.

“The Labour Commissioner is at the police station. Only after going through the FIR, can we say what action will be taken against the accused,” said ACP (Dispur) Suprativ Lal Barua.
