Sonowal welcomes Railway Budget

'Assam government has not expedited development works even after receiving funds from the Centre'

Dibrugarh, Feb 26:  The Union Minister of state for Sports and Youth Affairs Sarbanda Sonowal has welcomed the Railway Budget which was presented on Thursday at Lok Sabha by Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu.

Addressing a press meet here Sonowal expressed his satisfaction over the construction of double railway track from Bongaigaon-Guwahati and Lumding-Dibrugarh along with the proposed construction of another double track from Lumding to Dhubri.

The Union Minister stated that the necessary funds for the projects have already been allocated.

Expressing gratitude to PM Modi and Suresh Prabhu, Sonowal, said that in the absence of infrastructural development facilities,  a State cannot achieve overall progress especially when the communication sector like rail, air and road transport  are not set with new conveniences.

Sonowal further stated  for the development of Northeastern states and Assam in particular , Prime Minister  Modi has  include this States under the priority zone, for which Ministers of various departments have been asked to visit the Northeastern states to assess and take up development activities.

As such the Surface Transport Minister, Nitin Gadkari would be laying the foundation stone for construction of tiol highways and infrastructure development, at a function to be held at Moran on February 27.

He alleged that the Congress government has not expedited the works even after receiving funds from the Central Government.  Sonowal even blamed the former PM Manmohan Singh for his sheer letdown to strive for the State’s progress as a Rajya Sabha MP from Assam.

Later answering a query, Sonowal said that bridges would be constructed over the Brahmaputra and Barak River and negated the CM’s claim by stating that if sincerity and honesty triumphs then bridges would be constructed.

Sonowal lambasted Congress for playing divisive politics and corruption for the last 15 years but affirmed that their party aims to work for safeguarding the interest of all by not following Congress’s nefarious politics.

Answering a query, Sonowal stated that Rs 67 crores has been allocated for upgrading Mohanbari Airport with night landing facility for better air communication facilities in the district.

The State BJP president castigated AIUDF and Congress parties for playing corrupt politics and called upon the people to extend their cooperation to help the BJP to safeguard their interests for the progress of the State as BJP party is committed to work for development of the people of all communities.
