GUWAHATI, Jan 17: The Samajwadi Party (SP) is going to field 25 candidates in the Assam Assembly elections slated for this year. Talking to The Sentinel over telephone, State SP president Hafis Rashid Ahmed Choudhury said: “I met SP’s Assam in-charge and tiol general secretary Kiromoy nda on June 15 in Delhi. We’ve decided to field 25 candidates in the Assam Assembly elections. Minus the Congress and the BJP, we’ve kept our option for understanding with other secular parties in Assam open.” Choudhury said: “Instead of addressing the burning issues of the State, the political parties in the State have been engaged in mud-slinging. The people of the State are bored of such glib talks. If Chief Minister has failed to gauge the problems afflicting the State in the past 15 years, in the past 15 months Prime Minister rendra Modi has also failed to realize Assam and its problems. The six BJP MPs and the Union minister from Assam have failed utterly.” The SP leader further said that during the Assembly elections in the State, SP leader Mulayam Singh Yadav and his son Akhilesh Yadav would visit Assam.
