Guwahati, April 2: Two senior KPLT leaders have been gunned down in Karbi Anglong. Acting on intelligence reports, security forces had launched an operation in the dense Kalyani Reserve Forest on Thursday.
"A highly trained team of army was deployed for the operation. Last evening they encountered a group of armed insurgents. On being challenged, the terrorists attempted to escape and fired indiscrimitely on the army troops. In the ensuing gunfight, two senior KPLT militants were elimited," defence spokesman Lt Col Suneet Newton said.
The slain cadres have been identified as Sojong Tisso, the outfit's fince secretary, and Mokrang Bey. An HK 33 rifle and an automatic pistol were recovered from them. Another militant, Son Tisso, was caught alive by the troops.
