Why elect do-nothing MLAs, asks Governor

By Our Staff Reporter

Guwahati, February 26: Governor PB Acharya was today shocked to see an example of ‘development’ in Guwahati and wondered why its people are electing legislators who fail in their duties.

The Governor was en route to the Social Welfare department’s Children’s Home at Fatasil Ambari this morning. He wanted to visit the trafficked children from Tripura and Assam who were rescued yesterday at the Guwahati Railway Station. There is a dilapidated wooden bridge leading to the Children’s Home. As vehicles cannot ply on the bridge, a carpet was rolled out over it for the Governor to walk across. Officials held the Governor’s hand as he made his way precariously across the rickety bridge.

The scary experience was enough to exasperate the Governor and inquire who the local MLA was. Interacting with people from the area, the incensed Governor asked, “Since when has the bridge been in this condition? Who is your local MLA? Haven’t you complained about this matter? Why do you elect such people?” The locals not only med local MLA Hemanta Talukdar, but went a step further mentioning the me of Guwahati Mayor Abir Patro.
