GUWAHATI: As on date, approximately 1.32 lakh voters do not have photographs against their names in the electoral roll.

In the first part of November, altogether 1.46 lakh electorates did not have photos against their names in the electoral roll. However, following drives undertaken among the public by the District Election Officers (DECs), the Booth Level Officers (BLOs), and the Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), as many as 14,000 photos have been collected so far. Against this backdrop, the Election Department, Assam has urged such voters to submit their photographs at the offices of the officers mentioned above at the earliest.

Sources informed that following the ECI (Election Commission of India) guidelines if any electorate fails to submit his/her photos, the name would be deleted from the electoral roll.

The Special Summary Revision (SSR) of the 'Electoral Roll-2021' began on November 18 with the publication of the draft photo electoral roll. This process will continue till publication of the final photo electoral roll on January 15, 2021. Earlier on November 29 (Saturday) and November 30 (Sunday), officials and personnel of the Election department conducted awareness campaigns in the State. Two more such awareness campaigns will be held on December 5 (Saturday) and December 6 (Sunday). The public will be able to submit photographs to the BLOs at the respective polling stations.

According to the draft photo electoral roll-2021, of the 2,24,39,522 electorates in Assam, while 1,14,25748 are male voters; 1,10,13,774 are female electorates.
