GUWAHATI: Assam has set a record of its own by inoculating over 68 lakh people in August this year. The State Government has its target of September 5 to inoculate all eligible people in the Kamrup (M) district.

The state has adequate vaccine doses now. According to Health Department sources, the department inoculated 68,44,524 people in the state in August – the first dose to 56,41,101 people and the second dose to 11,97,423 people. In August, the Kamrup district topped the list by inoculating 4,23,749 people. Following Kamrup is Barpeta with 3,70,351 and Nagaon with 3,45,378. The Kamrup(M) district came fifth by inoculating 3,33,685 people.

The flow of the Covid-19 vaccine was quite encouraging in the past week. This morning, the state had a stock of 21,44,360 vaccine doses. Till 6 pm today, the cumulative number of people inoculated was 1,76,54,332 – the first dose to 1,45,01,238 and the second dose to 31,53,094 —in the state. On Wednesday, the medicos carried out the vaccination drive from 1,117 sites in the state.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Keshab Mahanta reviewed the vaccination status of the Kamrup district at the deputy commissioner's office at Amingaon today. He instructed the DC to engage booth-level officers, ASHA workers and gaonburhas to prepare the list of people who have not yet taken vaccine doses in the district. The minister also asked the DC to complete the vaccination drive in Kamrup by September.

The vaccination for the general public began in March 2021 in the state.
