My responsibility is to give good administrative system to BTC: Assam Governor

KOKRAJHAR: Assam Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi during his Kokrajhar visit on Monday at Jharbari, told media persons that his duty was to give a good administrative system to BTC (Bodoland Territorial Council) so that there would be no corrupt practices or other laxities.

Governor Mukhi, who is now ruling the BTC since April 27, on Monday first visited Kalasi near the Swrmanga River at Jharbari under Haltugaon Forest Division in Kokrajhar and planted saplings there before he left for Sanfang and Srirampur in the Gossaigaon subdivision. The Governor added that he had targeted to plant 40 lakh saplings in the BTC region, of which over 31,000 saplings have been planted so far. He also said that the plantation would continue to recover the degraded forest lands.

Governor Mukhi also said that he had transferred Forest officers for effective protection of forests. He said that necessary action would be taken to strengthen the Forest guards by sending them arms, the required vehicles and bikes to deal with the timber smugglers and illegal encroachments. He also said that the Forest officials of Chirang had been suspended after they were caught involved with the timber mafia. He further said that he would deal with illegal cutting of trees and also illegal encroachments.

The Governor further said that the election to BTC would be held as soon as possible and he was trying to give the best possible administrative system to BTC. He further said that the parties should stop attacks and counter attacks in election time and ensure free and fair polls.

On the COVID-19 pandemic, Governor Mukhi said that earlier people had fear in their minds about the deadly virus when the spread was too less; and now that the deadly virus was spreading rapidly, fear among the people had decreased. He added that people should not take the virus easily but should maintain the social distancing norms and wear masks to prevent the infection.

Replying to questions on the illegal appointment in BTC, the Governor said as many as 29 employees engaged by the Transport department of BTC had been sacked as there had been no creation of posts or interviews for the appointment and they had been engaged illegally. He also said that he would look into other departments if he gets complaints.
