GUWAHATI: Any person arriving in the state from abroad will have to undergo a seven-day home quarantine even if he tests Covid-19 negative during the test at airports. The state Health Department said this in its new SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) for Covid-19 following the detection of the Omicron variant of the virus in the country. The SOP is effective from tonight.

Health Minister Keshab Mahanta said, "Every person arriving in the state from abroad will have to undergo a Covid-19 test at the airport. If the person tests Covid-19 positive, the department will treat him as per Covid protocol. We will send his swab samples for the genomic test at the INSACOG laboratory network. Even if the person tests Covid negative, he will have to stay in quarantine for seven days.

"RT-PCR test at the airport is a must for all those who come from abroad. Of course, children below five years will have some relaxation. Such infants will undergo tests only if they have some Covid symptoms.

"The district administrations will have to keep a close watch on all those who arrive in the state from abroad. The administration will have to maintain regular contact with such people.

"Every international traveller to and from the state will have to upload his travel history for the past 14 days in the portal – Air Subidha. Such travellers also need to upload their Covid-negative reports (RT-PCR) of the past 72 hours.

"Special Covid-19 protocol is a must for any international passenger coming to the state from any country where Omicron has occurred.

"All International travellers of the state going out or coming into Assam should submit self-declaration form on the online Air Subidha portal (http://www.newdelhiairport.in/airsubidha/apho-registration) before the scheduled travel, including last 14 days travel details.
