GUWAHATI: Assam's Director General of Police (DGP) Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta on Saturday chaired a meeting with senior police officers of Guwahati and several other districts to review measures to tackle crimes in the areas concerned.

According to police sources, those present at the meeting included Special DGP (Law and Order) GP Singh, the Inspectors General of CID, SB and Law & Order, Commissioner of Police, Guwahati Harmeet Singh, and the Deputy Commissioners of Police, Guwahati. The meeting was also attended by the Superintendents of Police (SPs) of the Kamrup, Nagaon, Morigaon, Tamulpur, Udalguri, Baksa, Nalbari, Goalpara and Darrang districts.

According to the sources, participants at the meeting laid emphasis on maintenance of coordination among police officials of all these districts to facilitate tackling of crimes. It was further resolved at the meeting that no stone would be left unturned to apprehend all criminals regardless of the place where the crime is committed.

The SPs were directed to keep a strict vigil to ensure that no criminal can evade capture by the police, the sources added.

It may be mentioned that DGP Mahanta had informed the media on Friday that a "stock-taking meeting" would be held with police officers of several districts with a view to apprehending accused persons who may be hiding in the districts concerned on the strength of "essential links" there, after committing crimes in Guwahati.

Mahanta had further said that the police too faces some problems in apprehending absconding criminals, but steps are being taken to overcome these issues in the greater public interest.
