GUWAHATI: Leaders from across the political spectrum, including the President of India Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have condoled the demise of Congress stalwart Tarun Gogoi.

President Ram Nath Kovind: "Extremely sad to know of the demise of Shri Tarun Gogoi, former Chief Minister of Assam. The country has lost a veteran leader with rich political and administrative experience. His long tenure in office was a period of epochal change in Assam.He will always be remembered for the development of Assam and especially towards his efforts to improve law and order and fighting insurgency in the state. His passing away marks the end of an era. In this hour of grief, condolences to his family, friend leaders from across the political spectrum, including the President of India Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have condoled the demise of Congress stalwart Tarun Gogoi. and supporters,"

Prime Minister Narendra Modi: "Shri Tarun Gogoiji was a popular leader and a veteran administrator, who had years of political experience in Assam as well as the Centre. Anguished by his passing away. My thoughts are with his family and supporters in this hour of sadness. Om Shanti."

Union Home Minister Amit Shah: "Anguished to learn about the passing away of veteran leader and former Chief Minister of Assam, ShriTarunGogoiji. May almighty give his family the strength to bear this tragic loss.My condolences with his family and followers.Om Shanti Shanti Shanti."

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh: "Anguished by the demise of Assam's former Chief Minister, Shri Tarun Gogoiji. Blessed with a warm personality he made notable contribution to Assam's development and public life. My heartfelt condolences to his family and supporters.Om Shanti."

Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi: "TarunGogoi was a towering leader who witnessed several ups and downs during his long political career. His sagacity and leadership as the former Union Minister and Chief Minister will be a source of inspiration and guidance for many. Though no words will suffice to express my grief on his death, I whole-heartedly pray to the Almighty for eternal peace of late Gogoi. His wonderful and gentle soul will forever remain in our hearts. My sincere condolences to the bereaved family."

Chief Minister SarbanandaSonowal: "I am deeply saddened by the demise of former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi. With his death, the State has lost an experienced, capable and efficient political leader. The people of Assam will always remember his committed service and contributions to the State. His sense of humour, amiable and outspoken nature attracted everyone. He set high ethical values in the field of politics with his simple life-style and contributed profusely in strengthening democratic values in the country".

I was lucky to have worked under him. He rescued Assam from a period of darkness & led it for 15 yrs ensuring a new phase of development."

Rahul Gandhi :"Shri Tarun Gogoi was a true Congress leader. He devoted his life to bringing all the people and communities of Assam together. For me, he was a great and wise teacher. I loved and respected him deeply. I will miss him. My love and condolences to Gaurav & the family."

Arunachal mourns TarunGogoi's demise: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu expressed grief and sorrow over the demise of former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi due to post COVID-19 complications. "Saddened by passing away of former CM of Assam Shri Tarun Gogoiji.My sincere condolences to the family. My thoughts and prayers with them in this hour of grief." tweeted Khandu. Expressing deep shock over the death of Gogoi, senior Congress leaders in the State also joined the mourners across the nation.

Expressing shock at the demise of Gogoi, Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Lombo Tayeng stated that his death is the end of an era as he had carved a niche for himself by serving as Assam Chief Minister for three terms during 2001 to 2016 to not only create an unparallel record in the North East political scenario but also by making numerous landmark achievements.

North East Congress Coordination Committee (NECCC) general secretary Padi Richo termed late Tarun Gogoi as a fatherly figure for the party workers in the region; and added that his death is an irreparable loss to the Congress family across the country.
