AATSA Threatens to Shut Down Oil Rig at Demow, Accuses OIL of Failing to Deliver on Promises

All Assam Tea Student Association (AATSA) has threatened to shut down the oil rig at Demow in the Sivasagar district for an indefinite period. The oil rig was set up in 2019 at Athabari tea estate.

As per reports, Oil India had acquired 30 bighas of land in Athabari Tea estate and a lot of tea workers' land for setting up the oil rig but has not paid any compensation to all the workers for the land.

In addition, Oil India had promised to provide employment to the local educated people in the field, but to date, no action has been taken.
