BJP Emerges Winner In Deori Autonomous Council Polls

Saffron party emerges as single largest party in Deori Autonomous Council Polls.

Deori Autonomous Council spreads across 6 districts of Assam, 4 subdivisions of some other districts. Council controlled areas fall in Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Sonitpur, Jorhat, Sibsagar, Dibrugarh & Tinsukia. Results for 22-member council declared on Nov 10. Voting took place on Nov 8 across 93 polling stations. Overall voter turnout stood at 80%

BJP-AGP alliance wins in 12 constituencies. Congress wins in 2, Jannayak Janta Party in 7 seats. Independent candidate wins in 1 constituency. Total of 75 candidates in fray for polls.

BJP fielded the most, 18 candidates while its ally AGP stood up in 4. Major blow for the Congress who fielded candidates in 14 seats but won only 2. 9th win for the BJP in Assam since PM Narendra Modi's Govt came to power in 2014.
