2005 PDS Scam
Akhil Gogoi came under government scanner in 2005 when he exposed a PDS (Public Distribution System) rice scam in his home district of Golaghat, Assam.
Shanmugam Manjunath Integrity Award
Gogoi received the Shanmugam Manjunath Integrity Award for his stand against corruption in 2008.
2009, Anti-Dam Protest
Gogoi around mid-2009, lead a state-wide movement against construction of big dams in the ecologically sensitive regions of Gerukamukh village in Dhemaji and Lower Subansiri of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
2010
Gogoi received the National Right to Information (RTI) Award from the Public Cause Research Foundation (PCRF), a Delhi based NGO.
April 2010
A report of the Assam government alleged that Gogoi had close connections with CPI-Maoist. Challenging the report Gogoi dared the Assam government to prove the allegations levelled against him.
May 2012
Gogoi sat on an indefinite hunger-strike in Guwahati, demanding release of 27 anti-dam protesters, arrested from Ghaghar Village in Lakhimpur district on May 11.
2015
New political organisation Gana Mukti Sangram Asom was formed by Gogoi and KMSS during the bi-annual conference of KMSS.
2017
In Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti's 5th bi-annual conference, Gogoi announced that the party would contest the next Assam elections.
December 2019
Assam Police arrested Gogoi in Jorhat when anti-CAA protests across Assam had taken a violent turn. Gogoi has been in jail since.

Why is Akhil Gogoi in Jail since Dec 2019 – Akhil Gogoi was arrested by Jorhat Police over the anti CAA protests, on 12 Dec, 2019. He was booked by NIA on charges of sedition under the provisions of the UAPA on 17 Dec, 2019. On 17 July, 2020 the Gauhati HC granted bail in three other cases: burning of a circle office, a post office, and a UBI branch in Dibrugarh.
