Marathon for peace and harmony

Silchar, December 31: 10 km marathon race with the message of peace and harmony was organised by Lions Club Lakhipur on Monday. 118 participants, 103 male and 15 female, who participated in the adventurous run, expressed their joy and happiness to become actively involved in this campaign for goodwill and friendship. There was great enthusiasm among  people in and around the areas who lined up on both sides of the scheduled track to cheer up the runners.

The race was kicked off from the ground of Nehru Higher Secondary School that wound up at Fulertal. It took 1 hour 40 minutes to cover the distance for the fastest among the racers who, according to the clicking of time, were awarded first, second and third prizes in both male and female categories. The winners in male category bagging positions in order of their timing were Biswajit Singha, Paresh Karmakar and Dipu Karmakar who received cash prizes of Rs 5000, Rs 3000 and Rs 2000 respectively.

The winners in female group standing first, second and third places included Aphimoni Laskar, Mamta Fulmali and O, Chan Chan and were awarded cash prizes of Rs 2000, Rs 1000 and Rs 500 respectively. All the winners also received certificates in appreciation of their good effort at exercise and for participation. Along with that, a speed poster game was also organised to boost up the morale of the young boys and girls and to get themselves engaged in noble causes.

The best among the speed poster game , Rajeswari Paul, Proythika Sharma and Meithee Acharjee , who were adjudged first, second and third,  were given certificates. Lion P K Sahal Singha, President, at a simple function held on the occasion, and attended by barun Bhattacharjee, SDO(Civil) of Lakhipur, and graced by a host of citizens, said since 2009, the marathon race is being organised along with several eye camps for poor and needy.

Deputy Commandant of 27 Assam Rifle, Jasbir Singh Makkik, along with his jawans also participated in the marathon race to send the message that his force is always with the people to help them. His gesture and participation and cooperation was highly applauded. All the participants and associates were treated to light refreshment by Assam Rifles. Other speakers who spoke on the occasion appreciated the annual marathon race by Lions Club of Lakhipur.
