Demand to renovate railway stations in Margherita, Tinsukia

DIBRUGARH, December 31: Tinsukia Zila Committee of the Communist Party of

India (CPI), in a memorandum submitted to the General Mager, NF Railway, during his recent tour to this part of the region, demanded that the existing railway station in Margherita in Tinsukia districts should be renovated with all modern amenities.

Referring that Assam Railway Trading Company had started construction of railway line from Dibrugarh to Saikhowaghat  and Dibrugarh to Ledo, and  were the first Historical Railway line in North East Region of India, CPI Tinsukia district secretary, Ranjan Chowdhury stated  that the

Margherita Railway Station, one of the oldest railway stations in the country, should be christened as Dihing Patkai Terminus and had appealed the railway authority to make Ledo station as the starting point for all long distance trains.

The memorandum further stated that as the traffic in this route would considerably be increased with the opening of Bogibeel Rail cum Road Bridge near Dibrugarh, the existing Railway track scatters in Dibrugarh –Tinsukia – Digboi– Margherita and Ledo, should be converted into double track immediately and accordingly all closed railway stations should be reopened.

Chowdhury in his memorandum also demanded to reme the existing Tinsukia Railway station and Dibrugarh Banipur Railway stations in the me of Mottock Kingh Sarbanda Singh and  Roop Konwar Jyoti Prasad Agarwalla respectively.

Keeping the interest of commuters Dibrugarh–Tinsukia and Ledo railway track in view, the authority should introduce more trains in this Railway tracks and maintain cleanliness of the train.

“A new Railway station should be constructed at Dhola Town in Tinsukia district  and a bridge over Kundil River which would certainly help people in this region in general and tourist in particular,” secretary of Tinsukia District CPI Committee, Ranjan Chowdhury asserted.
