Subhadip Dutta holds fast in support of separate Barak

Silchar, January 1: The general secretary of Separate Barak Demand Committee Subhadip Dutta held dawn to dusk fast agitation in support of his 21 point charter of demands which mainly include separate Barak here today in front of Khudiram statue. .

 As announced earlier, Subhadip Dutta held the fast today with a view to strengthen the demands of the Separate Barak Demand Committee. He said that like thirteen functions in twelve months, he will hold thirteen fast protests in twelve months of 2015 which began from today. On the first day of a month, he will hold 12 hour fast in front of Khudiram statue. In the month of December, he will hold the fast on two occasions.

He said until Barak Valley is separated as a different State, the valley should be granted autonomy and economic independence.  He said that they way the people of Dima Hasao and Karbi Anglong are enjoying the economic independence; the valley also should be given such benefit. He underscored the importance of united movement for separate Barak. The charter of demands mainly include a branch of High Court in Barak Valley, preference to be given to the local youths in jobs, night landing in Khumbhirgram Airport, completion of all the road projects of the region, augmentation of two to three flights on Silchar–Guwahati and Silchar–Kolkata routes, solution to the problem of illegal infiltration, improvement of Sutarkandi–Sheola border, set up of a passport office, sanctioning of new industries in Barak Valley, improvement of paper mill, among others.

Subhadip Dutta urged the elected representatives of the valley to come forward to support the demand of separate Barak. He at the same made an appeal to all the political organisations to take up the issue and launch movement.
