Pakistan seeks early hearing of Lakhvi case

Islamabad, Jaury 2: The Pakistani government on Friday sought an early hearing in the Supreme Court of the case against Zaki–ur Rahman Lakhvi, the alleged mastermind of the 2008 Mumbai terror attack.

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has challenged the suspension of the detention order of Lakhvi, Geo TV reported.

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Monday suspended the notification of detention of Lakhvi in the Mumbai terror attacks case.

He had moved the Islamabad High Court against the government’s decision over his detention.

Lakhvi was detained Dec 19, 2014, under the Maintence of Public Order (MPO), a day after he was granted bail by an anti–terrorism court. He was granted bail on surety bond of Rs.5,00,000.

He is currently detained at Adiala Prison after being placed on judicial remand for 14 days for his alleged involvement in a kidpping case.

Lakhvi was arrested in February 2009 and indicted along with six others on November 25, 2009, for planning and helping to carry out the Mumbai terror attack.

The six other men facing trial for their alleged involvement are Hammad Amin Sadiq, Shahid Jamil Riaz, Yous Anjum, Jamil Ahmed, Mazhar Iqbal and Abdul Majid. (IANS)
