DLCC meeting held to review law–and–order scerio in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR, January 5: A meeting of the District Level Coordition Committee (DLCC) was held on Sunday at DC’s conference hall with Thaneswar Malakar, Deputy Commissioner of Kokrajhar in the chair. The meeting was held to review the law–and–order scerio in the district and security aspects arising out of the 23/12 massacre in the district where 33 persons lost their lives and 17 others were injured, besides rendering many families homeless.

Initiating the discussion, S Kumar, Superintendent of Police, Kokrajhar, said that 16 companies of army and para–military forces had already stationed at Kokrajhar and one company was on the way. Further, he informed that 41 fixed pickets had already been set up in sensitive areas and other places were covered with active patrolling parties. The Superintendent of Police disclosed that so far 58 persons had been arrested for causing untoward incidents post the December 23 carge.

Balbir Singh, Commanding Officer of 2nd Rajput Regiment, Ram Kumar, Commandant of 129 CRPF, Col. K.K. Venkataraman, C.O. of Garhwal Rifles, Vikram Singh, Assistant Commandant, 34 Bn BSF and others who were present in the meeting apprised that they were poised to bring back normalcy in the district and to instill confidence in the public so that the camp inmates could return home early and maintain a normal life.

The Deputy Commissioner urged all forces to work unitedly.  Further, he asked them to take timely action against the anti–social elements. The Deputy Commissioner asked all to keep vigil on rumour mongers. He also informed that ex–gratia Rs 5 lakh to the families of the 33 deceased persons and Rs. 50,000 for fully damaged house and Rs. 22,000 for partially damaged houses would be released soon.
