’Wait for some more days for women’s bill’

Paji, Jaury 5: The rendra Modi–led government has been in power for only six months and should be given “some more days” to usher in reservation for women in parliament and legislative assemblies, BJP Mahila Morcha tiol president Vijaya Rahatkar said on Monday. When asked about the steps being taken by the BJP women’s wing to ensure that the Women’s Reservation Bill has a logical conclusion, Rahatkar said: “It will happen soon. It has been only six months since the government has come to power. It should be given some time... Now that we have waited for so long, we can wait for some more days.

“We have faith that the government will do it,” Rahatkar said.  Rahatkar, who was addressing a press conference at the Bharatiya Jata Party (BJP) state headquarters here, also said that her unit was taking up with the state government the issue of the death of 27–year–old Bollywood designer Isha Mantry due to suspected drug overdose. When asked to comment on the suspicious death of Mantry at the Vh1 Supersonic dance music event held in Goa last month, Rahatkar claimed she came to know about it through the media that the death happened due to drug overdose.

“We are talking to the government about it (Mantry’s death),” she said. Rahatkar, however, ducked queries on whether she would discuss the issue of the BJP–led state coalition government’s continued support to the casino industry, which the party had consistently threatened to rein in while it was in opposition. “I will not speak on any other issue, I came to speak only on ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’,” Rahatkar said.
