Army mounts offensive against militants

GUWAHATI, January 6: A joint team of army and police apprehended two NDFB(S) terrorists on Tuesday, a move which has thwarted the evil designs of the terrorist group in Kokrajhar district. The Army troops under the aegis of the Red Horns Division, in a joint operation with the Kokrajhar Police, apprehended these two terrorists near Tipkai, stated a press release. Two pistols and ammunition were recovered from the terrorists. These terrorists were asked by the organization to recruit new cadres, in view of the ongoing operation by the Army in Kokrajhar and Chirang districts, as revealed by both of them. These two persons had been involved in extortion activities in the past.  In another successful joint operation by Army Troops of Red Horn Division, five hardcore GNLA terrorists were apprehended along the Assam–Meghalaya border while they were carrying out extortion activities and trying to spread terror in Rongsoi area along theMeghalaya–Assam border. Five pistols and ammunition were recovered from the terrorists. Also, one KPLT militant was killed by Army Troops near Hemron in West Karbi Anglong district on Tuesday and one XM16 rifle and live ammunition were recovered from the militant.
