UBPO condemns retaliatory attacks on Bodos

From our Correspondent

KOKRAJHAR, January 6: The United Bodo People’s Organization (UBPO) expressed shock over unwanted political mud–slinging among the Bodo leaders in the aftermath of the 23/12 massacre and appealed to them to stop playing politics over the displaced people who were taking shelter in relief camps.

In a press release, UBPO president Mihiniswar Basumatary and secretary Gambaru Mashahary said the intention of taking political mileage out of the dreadful massacre carried out by the NDFB (S) in Kokrajhar and Sonitpur by certain Bodo leaders was unfortute. Without ming the party, they said that the Bodo leaders of two political blocks should understand that non–Bodo organizations and militant outfits had already taken benefit out of the incident. But at this critical juncture, certain Bodo leaders were busy in mud–slinging each other.

This abomible politics had rather boomeranged the overall interest of the Bodo society, they said. The UBPO urged the leaders of different–political and non–political Bodo organizations to refrain from practicing dirty politics between each other for their vested interest. They appealed all to stand united and work together for the common cause of the Bodo society.

The United Bodo People’s Organization (UBPO) condemned in strongest terms the brutal and inhuman killing of innocent Adivasi people that took place on December 23 in the district of Sonitpur and Kokrajhar and at the same time the UBPO expressed serious concern over the utter negligence and total failure of the State Government and its police to prevent the killings despite having received intelligence inputs about the possibility of such an attack.  Basumatary and Mashahary said that the erring and responsible officials of both civil and police administration should be made accountable and they also should be brought within the jurisdiction of enquiry into the carge by NIA (tiol Investigation Agency).

The UBPO also condemned the counter retaliatory measures carried out by the Adivasi people against the Bodo people in different places in Sonitpur, Chirang and Kokrajhar districts since December 24. This resulted in the killing of many innocent Bodo people and damage to property, Basumatary and Mashahary said adding that the Bodo society was not at all responsible for the December 23 mayhem as it was carried out by the NDFB (S) group.

Basumatary and Mashahary said that the Bodo society did not have any kind of link with the activities and heinous agenda of the NDFB(S) and this unwanted terrorist group could not represent the hopes and aspirations of the Bodo society. The UBPO strongly urged the Central and State governments to take appropriate steps to ensure registration of cases with regard to the unprovoked brutal attack on innocent Bodo people and burning of their houses, and to bring culprits within the domain of the enquiry by NIA, apart from the cases of the killing of Adivasi people by the NDFB(S).
