Will traffic problems ever end in Silchar?

From Our Correspondent

SILCHAR, January 8: Will the traffic problems ever end? This question is doing the round among the denizens of the town.

The setback of traffic congestion is becoming more and more critical with increasing number of all sorts of vehicles, encroached footpaths, rrow and broken roads, and above all frequent violation of traffic rules by its users. Hap–hazard parking of vehicles on either side of busy roads like Shillongpatty, zir patty and Hospital road, besides several other locations of Silchar have emerged as a major civic problem.

Thousands of vehicles bound for intervalley destitions and beyond besides intercity movement find it hard to negotiate through the congestion, culmiting in traffic srl which has become a daily phenomenon.

The move of the district administration to activate the bypass linking Ramgar with Hailakandi road and the parking of long distance buses and trucks at Inter State Bus and Truck Terminus at Ramgar has failed to have the desired result.

The traffic woes continue to worry the administration, civil and police. In order further to ease the traffic srl, a parking place for Sumos was also earmarked outside the town, but it failed to give desired results. The administration now must formulate a plan to minimize the traffic problems of the town which has turned out to be a kind of nightmare for the citizens. The people often face difficulties in reaching the office in time due to traffic jam. Sometime, the ambulance vans also get stranded on the road due to traffic srl which is really a matter of concern.
