Anundoram Borooah Award presented

Goalpara, January 9: The Anundoram Borooah Award for the year 2014 was given away in Goalpara on Friday in a well–attended meeting.

Altogether 890 students who excelled in the HSLC examition were given away the awards in two different venues, Axom Club and PR Govt. HS & MP School.

Beginning the function at Axom Club, 10 students from different institutions were felicitated by AMTRON chairman Mohibul Hoque, Minorities Development Board chairman A. Rasid Mondal, local MLA Monower Hussain, Deputy Commissioner JVN Subramaniyam and ADC, SZ Hazarika.

Addressing the students and guardians, Mohibul Hoque asked the awardees to alyze and follow the life of Anundoram Borooah. He also informed that the Chief Minister was mulling giving awards to students who succeed in the IAS exam. The other speakers also encouraged the students to carry on their duties and make their lives successful.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) and former SEBA chairman JVN Subramaniyam advised the students to take up the science stream. “I have noticed that out of 2 lakh successful students only 16,000 had opted for science. For physical infrastructure building, a State requires maximum doctors and engineers.”

The DC also informed that from next year SEBA was contemplating to present the students laptops with the entire higher secondary course preloaded.
