DDSU-led mass agitation against Bill on June 7

Dibrugarh, May 26: In order to take a more organized and effective approach against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, senior leaders of many organizations of the district came together at a meeting held at the Sahityarathi Laxminath Bezbaruah Bhavan on Thursday.

The meeting, presided over by the president of the Dibrugarh District Students' Union (DDSU) Likhan Baruah saw Shankarjyoti Saikia elaborating on the rationale behind the meeting. One of the most striking decisions coming out of the meeting was to launch a mass agitation campaign on June 7 under the leadership of DDSU, and in association with many other indigenous organizations of the district.

Many noteworthy leaders present at the meeting, including the general secretary of All Assam Karmachari Parishad, Dilip Singh, secretary of Dibrugarh University Karmachari Sanstha, Anjan Chetia, and secretary of the Dibrugarh wing of AATSA, Lakhindar Kurmi, spoke on withdrawal of the Bill in their respective speeches. The members of the organizations also decided to compound their protests in the coming days if the act was not struck off the government's agenda.
