MANGALDAI, May 30: “Krishaks are the backbone of our country and economy and when their income will be increased with the application of scientific agricultural methods, the State itself will lead towards prosperity,” said Mangaldai legislator Guru Jyoti Das while taking part in a farmers’ meet organized by the District Agriculture Department at its office premises on Tuesday.

He was addressing the farmers’ meet to mark the ceremonial launching of the government subsidized power tiller distribution to a total of 200 selected farmer beneficiaries under centrally sponsored ‘Bringing Green Revolution to Eastern India’ (BGREI) and ‘National Food Security Mission’ (NFSM) for the year 2017-18. He also appealed to all the farmers of the district to transform each and every abandoned land to green paddy field by adopting new modern agriculture technology. The legislator ceremonially handed over power tillers to 17 selected progressive farmers in presence of District Agriculture Officer Nila Kanta Deka, Agriculture Development Officer of Sarabari Agriculture Circle, Idris Ali and others.

Earlier while explaining the objectives of the schemes, District Agriculture Officer Nila Kanta Deka said that the government had been offering subsidy of around 40 per cent against the value of each of the power tillers.
