Chaygaon is a town and Assembly Constituency situated in the district, Kamrup. Assamese is the official language of the town. The distance between Guwahati and Chaygaon is about 36.8 km. The town is best known for "Maa Chandika Devalaya", a Shakti Peeth, where during Durga Puja, thousands of devotees.

Chaygaon Assembly Constituency is one of the 126 constituencies. it bears number 49 out of 126 and it falls under Gauhati Lok Sabha Constituency.

PARLIAMENTARY CONSTITUENCY

The Parliamentary Constituencies of India is 542 from which, the general category has 441 seats and the seats for SC and ST is 84 and 47 respectively. Chaygaon Assembly Constituency falls under Gauhati Lok Sabha Constituency. Queen Oja of the Bharatiya Janata Party won the Lok Sabha Election 2019 by securing 1008936 votes and Bobbeeta Sarma of the Indian National Congress became the runner up with 663330 votes. Chaygaon is a town in the Kamrup district. it is an administrative district. The district covers an area of 4345 square km. Its Headquarter is at Amingaon and as per the 2011 census report, Kamrup district has a total of 1517541 population.

The Assembly Constituency of the Chaygaon Constituency had 160183 electors. Amongst them, the overall valid votes were 145099. In the election, INC candidate named Rekibuddin Ahmed won the MLA seat by securing 72211 votes and became MLA, whereas Dr Kamala Kanta Kalita of the AGP became runner up with 64390 votes. Therefore, Rekibuddin Ahmed won the MLA seat by 7821 votes.

  • In 2001 Election Rana Goswami of the Indian National Congress party won the election by securing 50675 votes and Dr Kamala Kanta Kalita of Asom Gana Parishad became the runner up with 37482 votes.
  • In 2006, Dr Kamala Kanta Kalita of Asom Gana Parishad became the winner with 62113 votes and defeated Rekibuddin Ahmed of the Indian National Congress party, who got 43818 votes.
  • In 2011 and 2016, Rekibuddin Ahmed of the Indian National Congress party emerged as the winner with 64307 and 72211 votes respectively.
