GUWAHATI: The All Indian Trade Union Congress (AITUC) Assam State Committee staged a nationwide protest in remembrance of the 1942 Quit India Movement. The General Secretary Ramen Das said, “The 1942 Quit India Movement was staged on August 9 against the British, and with the same mission, the labour union is protesting nationwide against the BJP-led central government. The present government is harassing labourers and farmers through its anti-people policy. In regards to the rights of the labourers, we are protesting.” The protest was staged at various district headquarters in Assam.

“Our demands are: controlling the price rise; putting a halt to privatizing the government and public sector units; making the welfare board of unorganized labourers functional again; cancelling national monetization pipelines; etc.”, he added. The protest was staged in front of the Guwahati Refinery in Noonmati on Thursday.
