Cotton University to host mega symposium on nuclear physics

GUWAHATI: Cotton University and Bhaba Atomic Research Centre (BARC) will jointly host the forthcoming 66th DAE Symposium on Nuclear Physics at Cotton University to be held from December 1 to December 5, preceded by a pre-symposium and orientation programme on November 30.

The symposium, which is sponsored by the Board of Research in Nuclear Physics (BRNS), Government of India, is the largest symposium in nuclear physics in the country. Several distinguished and luminary scientists in the field of nuclear science from abroad as well as from BARC, IUAC, TIFR, VECC, IITs, and different Universities of the country will assemble at Cotton University. This is the very first time that the DAE symposium will be held in Northeast India.

This prestigious event will be graced by Prof. Ajit Kumar Mohanty, Director, BARC, Mumbai, Dr SM Yusuf, Director, Physics Group, BARC, Mumbai, Dr Sergei Yu. Taskaev, Director and Head Researcher, Accelerator Driven Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (AD-BNCT) programme, BINP Russia, Prof. Dr. Daniel Bemmerer, Technical Director, Felsenkeller accelerator Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf, Germany, Prof. Dr Yutaka Utsuno, Principal Researcher, Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA), Advanced Science Research Centre, Japan. The symposium is expected to offer an opportunity to young students and researchers of Assam in particular and the north-eastern region, in general, to interact with these world-famous scientists and learn from them directly.

The scientific deliberations at the symposium will be in the form of plenary talks, invited talks, evening talks, seminars, and contributory papers. In addition, there will be talks by selected Young Achiever Award (YAA) nominees, and presentations of 26 Ph.D. theses. 600 accepted contributory papers will be presented as posters, and 59 research papers are selected for oral presentation in seven major themes of nuclear physics.
