GUWAHATI: The Department of Higher Education, Assam, signed an MoU with Mahatma Gandhi International Hindi University (MGAHV) today to set up a campus in Assam. The institute will temporarily operate from the premises of the Assam Textile Institute and will promote Hindi and other Indian languages and research in higher education.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Rajnish Kumar Shukla, announced that the Assam campus of MGAHV will launch a mass communication course in Assamese in the state.

The University’s Department of Language Technology will also take the lead in the use of Artificial Intelligence in Assamese and various Indian languages.

Talking to the media today, Education Minister Ranoj Pegu said, “The Assam language is lagging insofar as Artificial Intelligence is concerned. The Department of Language Technology at MGAHV will be helpful in this sector.”
