Guwahati house owner sold tenant's belongings for unable to pay rent

GUWAHATI: In a bizzare incident, a person who was renting an apartment in Pub Sarania with his wife has alleged that their house owner has sold their belongings after they were unable to provide the rent.

According to the person, who is a fast food seller at Chadmari, they were renting at House no. 32 in Pub Sarania since February, 2020. After the lockdown was imposed they left for their native village and returned to the city on July 30. After arrival they found that their belongings were sold by the house owner as they had not paid rent from the month of March.

According to a police source, the owner said that the tenants were unable to provide the full rent and had given him Rs 9,000 on July 30. They took their belongings on the mentioned date after paying the amount, said the owner to the police. The police source added that the neighbours of the house owner also saw some people carrying household items in a vehicle. But, they were not sure from which party the persons belonged to.

In this regard, both the parties have lodged an FIR at the Chandmari Police Station and the further investigation is on.
