GUWAHATI: After the severe heat wave in the past few days, citizens were expecting some relief because of the rains. But the result wasn’t what the people were expecting, as the rains left several parts of the city under flash floods.

Hardly an hour of rain hit the city at around 12:30 PM on Friday, and several parts of the city suffered severe waterlogging. Some of these locations include Lachit Nagar, Bhangagarh, Rukminigaon, Walford, and B Barooah Road. Even the road next to the MLA hostel saw flooding today. Although the water slowly flowed out of the roads into the nearby drains, Although the waters did not need much time to clear up, the traffic caused by them took several hours to clear. Several people will now have to repair their vehicles, which have been damaged because of water logging as well.

With a single shower bringing the traffic to a crawl, it remains to be seen whether this problem can ever be solved. People who were caught unaware in the traffic jams raised questions about whether the recent activities of the GMC have in any way helped the situation or if the Mission Flood Free Guwahati has been a complete failure with a complete wastage of public funds.
